La Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez: our location in the heart of Guatemala

The city of La Antigua Guatemala is the great tourist attraction in Guatemala, it was named a Monument of America by the Pan-American Institute of Geography and History and declared a World and Cultural Monument by UNESCO in 1979.
The city is considered a historical and archaeological center, with a colonial architecture that dates to Colonial times. It was the city of Guatemala as of 1,543. However, on July 29, 1,773 an earthquake known as the "Earthquake of Santa Marta" occurred, forcing the city to move 45 kilometers to the Ermita Valley, where it is now currently located.
The city still retains the coat of arms that was granted by King Philip II, honoring it with the title of "Very Noble and Very Loyal City of Santiago de los Caballeros de Guatemala".
